CNS Monitoring System

2008–present

In 2008 I deployed Nagios for CNS with graphs, network device configuration archiving (RANCID), and SMS notifications via a GSM modem. Gradually I extended the monitoring to cover CNS customer infrastructure – laboratories, healthcare facilities, government offices, and businesses. Since 2021 I have been migrating the system to Icinga 2.

checks for network devices, Windows and Linux servers, Veeam backups, disk arrays, UPS units, certificates, web applications, server room and freezer temperatures, and generator sets,
custom notification daemon NaNoMan, escalations, SMS gateway on MikroTik,
custom plugins in Python and PowerShell, event handlers for automatic service restarts,
NagVis dashboards for individual departments and a large-screen display powered by Raspberry Pi,
Icinga 2 with Director, Grafana, single sign-on via Kerberos/LDAP, and satellite nodes in customer cloud environments,
integration of monitoring with the Alvao service desk (ATTC tool).
